Benazir
In October 2007, I accompanied Benazir Bhutto back to Karachi, Pakistan. She had been living in exile but was returning home to campaign for prime minister. There were threats on her life. I took this photo of the security on her convoy. Later that day more than 140 people were killed when explosions rocked that same convoy. Bhutto was spared. But she was killed in a terror attack two months later.

Clinton Congo
In August 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited the Democratic Republic of Congo. She met with women who suffered from rape and abuse by militiamen. Her laudable effort to combat violence against women was overshadowed by a comment she made during a town hall meeting with students in Kinshasa, the capital. When asked what her husband, former President Bill Clinton, thought of a Chinese loan to the African nation she snapped: "My husband is not secretary of state, I am. I am not going to be channeling my husband.’’ It led the news back home. This photo is of some of the women who came to greet Clinton during her visit.

Gaza
